Chalk Eastbourne Presents: Thinking Like a Mentor:

On Thursday 20th October, Chalk Eastbourne Presents offers you a chance to be inspired, build your skills and broaden your community within digital. Come along!

About this event

Chalk Eastbourne Presents offers you a chance to be inspired, build your skills and broaden your community within digital. Our first evening of digital inspiration will be presented by Russ Miles, who helps people thrive in one of the harshest and potentially impactful working environments: software system engineering.

Join us for a drink, listen to Russ’s talk, and meet fellow digital enthusiasts! All welcome - digital professionals, students, educators.

What’s the talk about?

Can you recall someone who had a positive impact on your career? Someone who helped and guided you to the next level, perhaps when you didn't even know another level existed?

Whether they were sharing their experiences, giving you hints and tips, or just offering a listening ear in your times of difficulty, they were the ones that you look back fondly on as helping you when you needed it most. They were the ones that didn’t just contribute and collaborate, they seemed to amplify the contributions of those around them too.

They are the “mentors”, and in this session you will learn how to be one and just how valuable this is to your business in the digital space.

You’ll explore the skills, practices and habits that will help you listen, support and guide members of your team as they thrive and flourish in their careers. You will learn how to avoid common pitfalls in mentorship, while also learning how to be a great mentee as well. This session will leave you prepared to successfully develop these one-of-a-kind working relationships that are gratefully and fondly remembered long after the mentor, and mentee, have moved on.

Who’s the speaker?

Russ Miles is on a mission, as an Author, Speaker and Engineering Manager, to help people thrive in one of the harshest, and potentially impactful, working environments: software system engineering. Through his books, mentorship, talks, courses and his daily work, Russ tries to help people that are responsible for building and running some of today's most critical software-based systems to develop their own personal resilience, empathy, EQ and grit to flourish at work and in their lives.

What’ll happen on the night?
