We are The Foundation Stage Forum, a forward-thinking educational software company responsible for Tapestry, the celebrated early years childhood education platform. Based in the heart of Lewes, East Sussex, our vibrant and welcoming office provides the perfect setting for collaboration and innovation. We’re seeking a dynamic R&D Software Engineer to help us explore, evaluate, and prototype new features that will ensure Tapestry remains at the forefront of the UK’s thriving EdTech sector.
Key Responsibilities
Collaborate with our team to assess and design innovative features for our platform.
Research emerging technologies and evaluate their feasibility for integration.
Develop prototypes and proof-of-concept solutions to validate ideas.
Analyse technical challenges and propose scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.
Provide clear documentation and recommendations based on findings.
Essential Skills & Experience
Proficiency in software development especially PHP (using Laravel), TypeScript (using React) & MySQL
Experience with systems design and API integrations.
Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
Demonstrated ability to develop and test prototypes.
Knowledge of software development best practices, including scalability and security.
Desirable Skills
Familiarity with educational technology platforms or tools.
Experience in database architecture, including designing for scalability, security, and multi-account access.
Knowledge of strategies for consolidating or connecting data across multiple databases (e.g., database federation, sharding, or multi-tenant architectures).
Understanding of UX/UI principles and their impact on user engagement.
Knowledge of AI/ML applications in software.
Experience with cloud services (especially AWS).
