The Festive Edition (...plus more on the next Chalk Connect session)
By Sarah Cronk, December 2024
The month of December is well and truly upon us, so, with just a week to go until the Big Day, we wanted to wish you a happy Christmas from the team at Chalk Eastbourne!
We hope those of you who attended our recent "DigiFestive" event enjoyed yourselves - a huge thank you to all of you for your generous contributions for Children With Cancer Fund. We raised a whopping £580 for the charity in just one night - they were so grateful for the difference it will make to local families.
We're looking forward to seeing you all in the New Year and bringing you more from our wonderful CDT community here in Eastbourne - as well as exciting news of Eastbourne DigiFest 2025.
The first opportunity to get involved in 2025 is with Chalk Connect on Tuesday 7th January, 5pm - 7pm at FOUNDRY in Eastbourne's Beacon Centre. We're pleased to welcome two Chalk Connect regulars to the stage for lightning talks during this session:
Ethan Brierley (Rust Backend Engineer at TrueLayer) - Contributing to open source software: The dos, don'ts, and hows
Dave Bottrill - Writing Python Packages in Rust
We're really looking forward to hearing more on these great topics. As always, there's no need to register in advance and it's free to attend, so just pop along and head to the bleachers at the back of the ground floor of FOUNDRY on the night. It's a relaxed event and all are welcome to join this meet up.
In the meantime, we hope you have a great Christmas and wish you all the best for the New Year!
from Sarah, Donna, and all the team at Chalk Eastbourne
One last thing… Two calls for help this week!
Bexhill College
Bexhill College are keen to ensure they meet the requirements of local employers, by appropriately developing their students to help meet the local skills needs. By doing so, they plan for their students to become suitable applicants for the creative & digital sector after their education. The College would appreciate your industry insights and would aim to act on suggestions you may have, to develop this future workforce so that they become more ‘work-ready’.
Therefore, they would like to invite you to their Creative Media & Digital Services Employers Board taking place on Monday 3rd February 2025, from 12 – 1pm, followed by a Reverse Jobs fair from 1.15 – 2.15pm.
Contact Kelly Evans at workplacements@bexhillcollege.ac.uk for further details and to express your interest. RSVP by 12pm Friday 20th December.
Cavendish School
Cavendish School in Eastbourne are struggling to find enough placements for their Year 10 work experience programme which runs w/c 31st March 2025 and are looking for any local businesses who would be able to offer placements to their students.
If you are able to offer a placement for a student that week, or know of any businesses who may be able to support, please get in touch with Cristy Holbrook at cholbrook@cavendish.cet.uk or call 01323 731340 as they need to arrange placements by the end of this week.
