Sightseeing around Eastbourne: The What3Words puzzle!

By Sarah Cronk

We’ve made a walking tour puzzle for you to enjoy - and discover more about Eastbourne at the same time!

This puzzle is designed to take you on a walking tour around some of Eastbourne’s historical, scenic, and interesting locations.

It’s completely self-serve, so you can do it at your own pace - or split into teams and make a challenge of it! We hope to include something for everyone, friends and family.

The whole route is on fairly flat ground and pavements, across 4km (provided you don’t get too lost!). You should reach roughly 6000 steps on your step counter.

With a bit of thinking time and exploration, you can finish the route comfortably in one to two hours.

What you’ll need:

  • This download (don’t scroll too far ahead through it!)

  • Access to the What3Words website or app

  • A fully charged phone

  • A comfortable pair of shoes

  • A keen mind for quizzing!

What’s What3Words, you ask?

Someone divided the world up into 3m x 3m squares and gave each square a unique combination of three words. It helps to find and share exact locations.

The words in What3Words addresses are random, so do not relate to the real-world location that they mark. For example, the steps at the entrance of 10 Downing Street are found at ///input.caring.brain.

How to play:

  • You’ll be asked a question.

  • The answer (a single word) will fit into a What3Words address.

  • Find that location on What3Words and walk to that sport.

  • Move on to the next clue and your tour will continue!

Enjoy your discoveries and feel free to stop off on your way around to explore areas, shops, and cafés further.

Please donate!

This puzzle has been designed by local custom software firm Switchplane to support St Wilfrid’s Hospice in Eastbourne.

If you’ve downloaded and enjoyed the tour, please consider making a small donation to this wonderful charity.
